Founded on the belief that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” the National Action Network wrapped up its 26th annual four-day national convention at the Sheraton Times Square April 29, 2017. Along with several panel discussions and presentations, the highlight of the convention was the annual Keepers of the Dream Awards, hosted by actor Samuel L. Jackson. Honorees included actor Harry Belafonte, the Rev. Dr. William Barber II and Terry O’Neill, president of the National Organization of Women. Gov. Andrew Cuomo also spoke at the ceremony. On the closing day of the convention there was a televised forum entitled “Measuring the Movement” hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton that featured leaders from the legacy civil rights organizations and national elected officials. United States Senate Democratic leader Charles E. Schumer, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke and Congressman Adriano Espaillat were among the congressional leaders that addressed the convention.
