Talking SCHOP! April showers bring Harlem EatUp! 2018

Although these showers might put a damper on your April days, May again brings the fourth annual Harlem EatUp! Festival, May 14 to May 20! This year’s festival blooms more nights and more restaurants to the Dine In Harlem dinner series, new eats at the signature Harlem Stroll in Morningside Park and new experiences only to be had right here in Harlem.
This year’s Dine In Harlem dinner series invites back old favorites such as Melba’s, paired with guest chef and TV host Andrew Zimmern of “Bizarre Foods,” and LoLo’s Seafood Shack, paired with chefs Janine Booth and Jeff McInnis of the LES’ Root & Bone (their shrimp and grits is off the chain!).
Some of the new Harlem restaurants participating in the Dine In Harlem series include Clay, paired with chef Leah Cohen of NYC’s Pig & Khao; Solomon & Kuff Rum Hall, paired with chef Maxel Hardy of Detroit’s River Bistro; BLVD Bistro, paired with chef Maneet Chauhan of Food Network’s “Chopped”; and Harlem Shake East, paired with chef Josh Capon of Bowery Meat Company. Lenox Avenue’s Settepani makes a return to the series, paired with celebrated chef Floyd Cardoz of Bombay Bread Bar.
This year’s Luminary Award Dinner, held at Ginny’s Supper Club, will honor Harlemites entrepreneur and media personality Bevy Smith and pioneering fashion designer Dapper Dan. Host chef Marcus Samuelsson welcomes restaurateur chef Geoffrey Zakarian and former Red Rooster Chef de Cuisine and “Top Chef” season 15 finalist, Adrienne Cheatham. Ginny’s will be the place to be!
On the weekend, the Harlem EatUp! brings together Harlem chefs, restaurants, food purveyors and makers, celebrities, foodies and more to Morningside Park for The Harlem Stroll, two days of tasting, eating, drinking, art, live music, wine classes, cooking demos, laughing, singing and the requisite dancing—to music or just your happy food dance—and just some good ol’ togetherness.
Also always, net proceeds from the festival benefit Citymeals on Wheels, providing companionship through food to our homebound elderly; Harlem Park to Park, supporting Harlem commerce through small business; Historic Harlem Parks, maintaining the 85 acres and 40 percent of open space in Harlem; and the Harlem EatUp! Foundation, supporting those nonprofit organizations that empower Harlem.
