Trump’s toxic mix of arrogance and ignorance was once again on display a few days ago with his ignorance in command this time on illegal immigration.

In words tweeted in caps he declared “NO MORE DACA DEAL!” Dah, what may we ask is the “great dealmaker” tweeting about now? If there was ever any chance of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Trump himself torpedoed that last September. This numbskull reasoning is akin to the old expression: how can you lose something you never had?

The DACA dreamers experienced their worst nightmare when Trump rejected several bipartisan proposals that could have possibly provided legislative remedies for the millions of young people brought to this country illegally.

If Trump’s words are nonsensical on this matter, his math is even more suspect.

He claimed that there has been an increasingly large number of immigrants trying to enter the country in order to take advantage of DACA. On the contrary, there has been a considerable decrease in the number of people apprehended by å agents, a drop in January 2017 to this month of 25,000. Ironically, this is a fact that even Trump has bragged about.

Moreover, there is no way these aspirants can take advantage of DACA since to be eligible for the program applicants must have lived in the U.S. since 2007. So, once again Trump’s illogic is evident.

Thanks to federal judges in New York and California, and clearly no thanks to Trump, the Dreamers are still here, though their fate still hangs in the balance despite a temporary block on their deportation.

It is mindboggling that someone so dead set against immigrants does not understand the conditions they currently face, the ramifications of their present plight. Build a wall to keep them out, randomly deport them, and spew a welter of indignities on them—this is the Trump policy on immigrants, legal or illegal.

We have commented on these pages again and again about Trump’s inhumane disregard for citizens of color, and it appears we are dreaming to expect any compassion from him.

In a few days we will commemorate what another dreamer proposed in the fight against social, political and economic inequality. Yes, Dr. King was a dreamer and there is no doubt he would have fully embraced the other Dreamers: He would have been steadfast in securing their well-being and humanity.

As we take time out to remember the great dreamer, let’s now forget the millions of Dreamers, and they wouldn’t have to dream in vain if this demand was answered: Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
