Designer Christian Cowan’s entrance-making styles left the New York Fashion Week audience in awe as models stepped up and down the runway. His clothes were futuristic, yet elegant. His skill for mixing clear plastic with fabric and faux fur made his fall/winter ’18 presentation one of the best and certainly most entertaining.
It’s no wonder that celebrities such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus are on his client list. Cowan, a young British designer, was born and raised in Cambridge, England and studied fashion at Central Saint Martins and at London College of Fashion. He first appeared on the New York fashion strip two years ago, and his signature collections made an impact at Fashion Week. His most recent show elevated his brand to a sophisticated status. The looks were provocative, vibrant and exciting.
While describing his clothes, he used the word “escapism.” “I design with the same intention as music,” Cowan remarked. “It’s there to take you on a journey. Sometimes people need a break from the real world and their day-to-day lives. My designs are here to brighten your day.”
The universal appeal of Cowan’s work exhibits the brand’s experience while working on multiple projects—from the internet-famous selfie hat, which was an early collaboration with tech giants, to capsule collections with Google and celebrity gala shows with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The New York-based design label Mansur Gavriel was founded by Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel in spring 2012. Gavriel creates elevated leather goods and ready-to-wear made in Italy from fine Italian leathers and fabrics. As a means to express a range of emotions, the brand’s philosophy is to design classic yet refined silhouettes that emphasize color and material.
Designer Mansur studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a BFA in textile. Gavriel studied at the University of the Arts Bremen in Germany and also graduated with a BFA in fashion design. These two designers met in Los Angeles in 2010, and they soon became long-distance collaborators. In April 2012, they both relocated to New York and founded their company. The Mansur handbag collection debuted in fall 2013. The team has a strong and dedicated customer base. You can find their brand at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Le Bon Marche, Dover Street Market, Opening Ceremony and more.
