It has been reported that a new Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda reissue is set to be released in September 2018. On the heels of the release of her late husband John Coltrane’s long-lost recording, “Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album,” earlier this year, and David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop unleashing an unreleased collection of Coltrane Turiyasangitananda’s spiritual music titled “World Spirituality Classics 1: The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda,” this mysterious, larger-than-life, matriarchal jazz powerhouse continues to have her music legacy recognized with a new upcoming album.

Pitchfork reports, “A new Alice Coltrane compilation has been announced: ‘Spiritual Eternal—The Complete Warner Bros. Studio Recordings’ is out September 7 via Real Gone Music. As the title suggests, ‘Spiritual Eternal’ collects the three studio albums that Coltrane released on Warner Bros. (‘Eternity,’ ‘Radha-Krsna Nama Sankirtana’ and ‘Transcendence’). The 2xCD was produced by Gordon Anderson and Zev Feldman and remastered by Mike Milchner. The set also comes with a 24-page booklet with notes by Grammy-winning music historian Ashley Kahn (based on interviews with producer Ed Michel and Baker Bigsby), rare photographs and original album credits.”

This collection of music isn’t showcasing the lesser known music that she recorded in the 1980s and 1990s but is revisiting more widely known recordings from the otherworldly spiritual jazz artist.

Recent years have shown a resurgence of interest in Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, who was never a household name like her late husband John. Nevertheless, her music is mesmerizing and more than worthy to be released and preserved for years to come.
