Actress, rapper and singer Queen Latifah is set to come to her hometown of Newark to host the 2018 Black Girl Rock! celebration Aug. 26 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

The annual event honors the groundbreaking and extraordinary achievements of Black women. The awards will air on BET Sept. 9 at 8 p.m.

“Queen Latifah is the epitome of Black excellence, hip-hop royalty and Black girl magic,” said Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock! founder and CEO. “She has been a longtime supporter of Black Girls Rock! and has been honored at both our televised and pre-televised shows. I’m so thrilled to welcome her back to the Black Girls Rock! stage as host.”

Queen Latifah was honored by Black Girls Rock! in 2013, alongside Patti LaBelle and Venus Williams.
