Two days of a sold-out Afropunk festival took over Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, New York Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.

Unique fashion choices mixed with the most creative of natural hairstyles were clearly a look many of the thousands of attendees worked for. Always a visual feast, the music—from hip-hop to soul to rock—brought new and established artists to the happy, heaving crowd. Some of the known artists included Janelle Monae, Miguel, Eykah Badu, Tyler The Creator, Pusha T, The Internet and Trash Talk. Vendors sold everything from bright and beautiful Africa-centered clothes and art to handmade jewelry, and healthy and just plain fun food and drinks. From morning to well into the night Afropunk 2018 was music, community, culture and walking/talking social statements.
