We are in the final leg of this year’s Black History Month, and 53 years ago Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) was gunned down at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights.

The men who shot Malcolm didn’t use AK-47s or AR-15s, but their ruthless disregard for human life is something that lives with his followers forever.

There is no evidence that Trump ever mentioned Malcolm, and as Malcolmites assemble and march to his gravesite, Trump is more concerned with Obama, blaming him for everything but Malcolm’s death.

In Trump’s narrow worldview Obama didn’t do enough to stop the Russians from meddling in American politics, and now he’s jumping his attorney general for not looking into this matter, not investigating Obama and his alleged failure to stop the Russians.

We know that Trump is out of touch with all the hoopla surrounding the “Black Panther film,” but we are glad he’s showing some recognition of the young people demonstrating against his recalcitrance on gun control.

If this nascent movement can gain a critical mass and shake Trump “woke,” maybe there’s a chance of finding a sensitive spot in his armor that is tougher than the vibranium from Wakanda.

OK, no use wasting a lot of popular culture on a man who is poised to eliminate the National Endowment of the Arts and National Endowment of the Humanities, institutions that have been the mother’s milk for struggling artists and writers in America.

We will probably be lashed for even mentioning Trump’s name as we remember Malcolm, and, true enough, our time could be better spent.

But Malcolm is gone and the good that he did lives after him. Trump is alive, or at least he has a pulse rate, so we join the young people outraged by his fascist tendencies and his unwillingness to stand up to the NRA.

Let the current momentum aroused by the young people out of Florida find traction across the nation because that’s what is absolutely required if we are to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
