When it’s cold, there’s nothing like a fur of any kind to keep you warm. For fall/winter 2017/2018, Pyer Moss has created a sumptuous men’s collection featuring faux-fur long coats that are fully lined, often with stand-up collars. While you’re on the run, out and about, these comfortable coats will keep you warm and looking fashionable. His impeccably tailored sportswear line of sweaters, trousers, sweat suits and screen-printed T-shirts complemented these fabulous cloaks on the New York Fashion Week runway.
Pyer Moss, founded in 2013 by African-American designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, showed a splendid fall/winter collection. His design project began as an experiment to reinterpret nostalgic cues from his childhood. His looks started with classic athletic gear and sports uniforms that he used to see in his youth.
“I didn’t have the means to participate in these sports activities,” recalled Jean-Raymond. Subsequent collections focused on science fiction movies, educational textbooks and hip-hop focused brands from the ’90s that he admired from afar. The designer reinterpreted all of these nostalgic concepts by first adding opulent cues to traditional clothing pieces. He referenced those themes, and then refined the fit for modern day life.
The collection evolved from a brand that focused on nostalgic themes to current social commentary. Jean-Raymond described the brand as an “art project” or “a timely social experiment” at times. Pyer Moss continues to redefine itself every season with collections that aim to provoke thought by combining storytelling, activism, debate, theater and social commentary. He has collaborated with other artists, including Erykah Badu and Usher.
Produced in Italy and New York, the Pyer Moss collections are sold limitedly at exclusive, high-end boutiques worldwide.
