The People’s Organization for Progress is hosting the March and Rally for Reparations in Newark Saturday, June 23, at noon

Participants will gather at the Lincoln Monument between Springfield Avenue and West Market Street across the street from Essex County College.

“No issue like the call for reparations for the crime against humanity that was the Transatlantic Slave Trade illustrates the racial divide in the United States,” P.O.P said in statement. “P.O.P. seeks to be a force to address that divide.”

Participants during last year’s march urged the passage of House bill HR-40 sponsored by Congressman John Conyers. The bill would “establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery.”

P.O.P. recently marked President’s Day by posting a banner on Newark’s Washington Monument calling him a “slavemaster.”
