The New York Chapter of Kawaida Organizations in conjunction with the International African Arts Festival is hosting the 49th Malcolm X Black Unity Awards Program Sunday, May 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza (1368 Fulton St.) in The International African Arts Festival office, Suite 401.

The awardees for this year are Dr. Julius Garvey, son of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, founder of the United Negro Improvement Association; and Sister Maisha Ongoza, chair of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Kawaida Organizations. Both of these individuals have a rich activist history of serving the world African community.

The program will open with a film on Malcolm’s life. Awardees will speak about how Malcolm X has influenced their lives.
