Makeup: The Met Store launches Pat McGrath Labs

We met during the early 1980s at a New York City Greenwich Village cafe, and once in Paris, France during the Pret-a-Porter shows. She talked about her dream of becoming famous for her work in cosmetics. She spent years traveling the world and working behind the scenes at fashion shows, creating makeup magic on the faces of many international top models. Just knowing that The Met Store launched her cosmetic and apparel line in conjunction with their celebration of the Costume Institute’s spring 2018 exhibition, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” is awesome, and a dream come true for Pat McGrath.
May 8, 2018, The Met Store announced its collaboration with Pat McGrath Labs. The timing couldn’t have been better. It’s the first collaboration of its kind for the Metropolitan of Art. The Met store will offer exclusive Pat McGrath Labs and The Met Color Cosmetics. Check the unveiling of the new Lust: Gloss Aliengelic, along with a special edition of McGrath’s best-selling Mothership IV Decadence Eyeshadow Palette. In celebration of the opening of the ongoing conversation between fashion, beauty and art, these limited edition cosmetics will feature artwork from The Met Collection on their packaging. The line will also feature limited-edition apparel, including long and short-sleeved T-shirts that are available in unisex sizes. McGrath will release additional products throughout the exhibition.
This British-born makeup artists has been called “the most influential makeup artists in the world” by Vogue.
“The Costume Institute’s exhibitions are legendary, and I am thrilled to be able to present this exclusive range of products inspired by this prestigious exhibition,” said McGrath, founder of Pat McGrath Labs, at her Met opening. “Religious history and artifacts have always been a vital influence on my work, and it is an extraordinary honor for me to be unveiling these new pieces alongside this breathtaking exhibition as the first-ever beauty brand at New York’s iconic Met Store.”
Each season, McGrath conceptualizes and creates beauty looks for more than 60 ready-to-wear and couture shows in Milan, Paris, London and New York. She has transformed the beauty industry. She works with Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, Givenchy, Versace, Alexander McQueen, just to name a few.
The Met store will also offer a special edition T-shirt by Versace as well as a range of fine jewelry designed by Donna Distefano. Distefano’s designs are inspired by a Renaissance papal ring, and the Virgin and Child pendant in The Met collection, as well as her own signature rosary beads. Rounding out the store’s offerings, there’s a range of Met brand merchandise featuring artwork from the exhibition. Prices range from $10 to $148. These items include a satin bomber jacket, denim jacket T-shirts, scarves, patches, wallets, a tote and coasters. Also available will be a commemorative poster, magnets and postcards with exhibition catalogue, written by Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of The Costume Institute, with text by additional authors.
You will find these items in a portion of the Museum’s main store, located adjacent to the exhibition in The Met Fifth Avenue’s medieval galleries that have been transformed to celebrate the exhibition. The store includes special display units created by Pat McGrath Labs expressly for The Met Store.
