How to spend two days in Toronto

Consider the Heart of Downtown Toronto, a 3½-hour tour with Toronto Bicycle Tours. Get a glimpse of approximately a dozen neighborhoods and many landmarks, such as Chinatown, St. James Cathedral and Square, the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Entertainment District. This tour is a fantastic way to start your trip. You’ll get an idea of what’s where and can decide what you want to explore further.

1:30 p.m.

Take a load off and have lunch in Chinatown. Locals furiously debate who has the best dumlings, Rol San or the Dumpling House. Try both and decide for yourself.

3:30 p.m.

From Chinatown, it’s a short walk over to the Art Gallery of Ontario. It is home to a collection of nearly 95,000 pieces of contemporary art, photography and more.

5 p.m.

Wind down your day a bit at Sugar Beach, named for its white sand. Sit quietly and collect your thoughts before heading off for dinner.

8 p.m.

If it’s the second Friday night of the month, end your night at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada. Enjoy all the sea life, great live jazz and cocktails. If it’s not the second Friday night of the month, go anyway.

DAY TWO

10 a.m.

Visit the more than 200-year-old St. Lawrence Market. This historic locale in Old Town Toronto has more than 120 specialty vendors in the South Market. Saturday it’s the place to be for the Farmer’s Market and Sunday it’s all about the antiques.

Noon

Head over to the Distillery District. You’ll love the historic buildings and cobblestone streets, art galleries, restaurants and the Mill Street Beer Hall. The vibe is festive. Find a great spot to eat lunch.

2 p.m.

Shop, shop, shop. There’s the CF Eaton Centre in downtown with 250 stores and restaurants. Travel underground through the PATH system and you’ll have 1,200 shops and services. Bloor Street in Yorkville is called Toronto’s Mink Mile—high-end retail to set you back a mint.

6 p.m.

Dine at the Museum Tavern. The menu is varied—think elk sliders, duck buns, truffle mushroom pierogis, buttermilk fried chicken and creole crab cakes.

9 p.m.

Make your rounds to the hotspots Lula Lounge, Reservoir Lounge or the Rex Jazz & Blues Bar.
