“Today, in honor, we remember every sacred soul who suffered the horrors of slavery and the anguish of bondage. In the face of grave oppression and grave injustice, African-Americans have built, strengthened, inspired, uplifted, protected, defended and sustained our nation from its very earliest days.”
The above quote, uttered Tuesday at Jamestown, came from the nation’s most notorious hypocrite. As we used to say in Harlem, the man is talking out both sides of his neck, and we shouldn’t believe either side. But we give the devil his due as Trump keeps a flowing line of lies, scapegoats, and props in his ceaseless denigration, particularly of people of color.
Those words at Jamestown ring hollow and are nothing more than his attempt to appeal to those who in the next breath he impugns with malice toward all. A day or so before his scripted remarks at Jamestown he called on some of his Black surrogates to stand with him in order to minimize the charge that he’s a racist.
Trotting out a group of Black ministers and a relative of Dr. King does not repair the damage Trump has done day in and day out during his incompetent, imperial reign. Hours before assembling his gaggle of sycophants, he was berating the Rev. Sharpton, calling him a “con man.”
Well, when it comes to con, Trump is the past master and he does it with such guile and proficiency that too many Americans mistake it for patriotism and loyalty to the principles of democracy and the Constitution.
Give him an honorary degree in sham and detraction, a doctorate in hoodwinking and bamboozle. Our task continues to be one of relieving Americans still struggling to get the wool from over their eyes, to remove the scales that blind them from the truth.
Trump is determined to make citizens believe that the economy is in good shape, that the employment numbers are up, that his approval rating is registering well at several poll sites.
Along with his blatant hypocrisy, the previous paragraph is indicative of what he calls fake news. The poor man has been snared in his own web of lies and deceit; from moment to moment he has no idea of his next move unless it’s predicated on spreading mischief and deception.
We refer you to the recent editorial in The Baltimore Sun, portions of which appear in one of our news stories, to gather what we believe is the quintessential Trump, a diabolical Rasputin, a contemptuous mad man who will take us to hell in a handbasket.
Yes, we give the devil his due and at the same time declare our allegiance to the words that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
