The Boys’ Club of New York’s fourth annual Thanksgiving Drive, held the weekend before Thanksgiving at BCNY’s Gerry Clubhouse in East Harlem, was hugely successful! Hundreds of turkeys were distributed to community members from Harlem, Queens, the Bronx and the Lower East Side—ensuring that families throughout New York City will be able to enjoy a great Thanksgiving!
The event was also made special in part because of a team of generous sponsors, including the Garden of Eden Foundation, FDNY Hispanic Society, Options-IT, Freedom Mortgage, Hielly Martinez, State Farm, Cross Country Mortgage, and Lambda Upsilon Lambda’s Service and Education Fund. Volunteers from throughout the tri-state area pitched in to help lift turkeys with all of the trimmings.
Doubling their previous year’s distribution to 1,000, Carlos Velazquez, BCNY’s chief program officer said, “We are grateful for our generous corporate sponsors as well as the many individuals who have donated to this important drive.” Velazquez also celebrated the army of volunteers, saying, “We also appreciated the cadre of dedicated volunteers who rolled up their sleeves, lifted turkeys from trucks, and packed bags full of food items for attendees. In the spirit of giving, the ultimate goal was to help make the holiday season brighter for families gathering around the dinner table.”
