Free weekend Jazz Summit opens in Harlem July 6

The New York State Jazz Literacy and Art Society is sponsoring The Great Harlem Jazz Summit, Part 4 at Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market, located at 52 W. 116th St. between 5th Avenue and Lenox/ Malcolm X Blvd on Saturday, July 6, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., and Part 5 at Cleopatra’s Needle Restaurant, located at 2485 Broadway (92nd Street) on Saturday, July 27, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
The July 6 concert is free to the public and will feature piano giant Richard Clements on keyboard, saxophone artist Alvin Flythe on tenor sax, singer Lee Olive Tucker, bassist Norbert Marius, drummer Jamey Affournado and more.
The July 27 concert will include Denton Darrien on piano and tap masters Makiko amd David Gilmore. Both events are hosted by 2018 International Jazz Day Awardee Dr. John Satchmo Mannan, who is both a vocalist and soprano saxophone artist.
