Summer 2019 begins this Friday, June 21, at 11:54 a.m. This gives you exactly six hours and six minutes to put on some seersucker or a sundress and head to East Harlem for the second annual Taste of East Harlem presented by Union Settlement Business Development Center’s “Buy Local Initiative.” This food and beverage event will showcase the diversity of East Harlem’s food and drink from sweet to savory, beer to tequila.
Held at Union Settlement’s Community Garden, 237 East 104th Street, from 6 to 9 p.m., Taste of East Harlem’s online tickets are $30 (food only), $45 (with alcohol), +$5 (purchased at the venue) for an unlimited tastings experience. Saturday, June 22, the first full day of summer 2019 brings you a full day of celebration. First up is Shop Harlem Artisanal Fair presented by Harlem Park to Park in the same location as their Harlem Harvest Festival, St. Nicholas at 117th street, beginning at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This artisanal fare will showcase Harlem’s food and gift makers with children’s activities, live performances and that DJ Stormin’ Norman “making it do what it do.” Visit shopharlemartisanalfair2019.eventbrite.com for more info.
After the fair take a beat and at 6:30 p.m. be at 124th Street and Fifth Avenue, to march in the parade with the two finalists of the 2019 Mr. or Miss Harlem Shake. With the help of the Marching Cobras, you will head over to Harlem Shake, 100 W. 124 Street at Lenox Avenue, for the 7 p.m. party and “sashing” of the winner. Live DJ, food and drink specials and you. What else do you need?
