Bronx City Council Member Andy King hosted a graduation cookout with hundreds of his constituents recently graduating from elementary, middle and high school, as well as post-secondary grads.

The keynote speaker was Sha Rock (Sharon Green), credited as hip-hop’s first female emcee. She spoke to the graduates about her journey persevering and finding success as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Other speakers included Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clarke, DOE Executive Superintendent Meisha Ross-Porter, local elected officials, local principals and teachers, and members of the Kings 5 Basketball Team alumni.

More than 350 people participated in this year’s cookout. The event is a collaboration between the Office of Council Member Andy King and the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program.
