This weekend the movie “Harriet” opens about the life of Harriet Tubman. The role of a lifetime went to Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo, who is already receiving Oscar buzz for her performance. Calling it the greatest honor of her career, Erivo says she hopes to make African Americans proud playing the Underground Railroad conductor called Moses who never lost a soul on 19 dangerous missions. “Be free or die” was her motto. Singer, songwriter and actress Indira Khan will perform live at The Velvet Note in Alpharetta, Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 24. Indira Khan is a seasoned performer whose talents come from legendary lineage; she is the daughter of soul icon Chaka Khan. Indira was introduced to the music industry in her teens as a member of the ’90s girl group Pretty in Pink. Khan also travels the world as part of the Daughters of Soul Tour. She also portrayed her mother in the TV One movie “Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story.”

Tongues are wagging that Jo Jo Simmons is a married man now. The “Growing Up Hip Hop” star, who is the eldest son of Run DMC icon Reverend Run, tied the knot with his longtime love and baby mama Tanice, on Oct. 27 in New Jersey. The newlyweds celebrated with a posh reception that was decorated with a heart-shaped ice sculpture. During an episode of “Growing Up Hip Hop” in August of 2018, Jo Jo proposed to Tanice after dating for eight years. The bride and groom’s toddler daughter, Mia Kaylee, also participated in the nuptials.
