We need no reminder from CNN’s Don Lemon or MSNBC’s the Rev. Al Sharpton of Trump’s obsession with former President Obama, though their reports are additional confirmation of something we’ve been stoking for months.
Trump was practically gloating over the recent killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the Islamic State, telling a press pool, “We captured a man who should’ve been caught a long time before.”
Obviously, this was a reference to Obama, as Trump must have broken his arm to pat himself on the back. His rush to take credit for the takedown and killing of Baghdadi stood in stark contrast to how Obama reported the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011.
It’s the ever expanding gap between Trump and Obama, how they administrate, how they relate to critical situations, that we suspect has burrowed deeply into his manic obsession.
Trump has never missed an opportunity to belittle his predecessor, to trample on his achievements, and undo each and every progressive and productive step of Obama’s eight years in office.
He will not be satisfied until he has totally vanquished Obama from public memory, and nothing would please him more than four more years in office, as his surrogates chanted during his recent visit to Benedict College in
But that event was a staged one with only a handful of students allowed to attend this session at the historically Black college. It was clearly an orchestrated moment to launch a futile appeal to potential Black voters.
Well, Trump, that gambit won’t work, nor will all your machinations, no matter how contrived, to banish Obama’s legacy.
Even if you manage to be re-elected—and that is our worst nightmare—you are not endowed with the moral turpitude or general warmth of the man who succeeded you in the White House. As you often say, “Get over it!”
Before the week is out, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will call for a vote on the impeachment inquiry. It’s a good bet the process will go forward, and that can’t happen fast enough for those who have endured your terrible policies and the violation of democratic rights.
To be sure, Obama wasn’t perfect, and despite the opinions you have of yourself Trump, neither are you. In fact, if anything, you are perfectly unfit to be in office and that’s why we join the mounting protests: Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
