Cuomo’s Medicaid cuts are hypocritical while governor

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is being promoted as some national star because of his daily reports on his response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yet right in his backyard, by way of his state budget, he cut Medicaid by over $2 billion and rolled back bail reform. What a hypocrite! To cut Medicaid that poor people, overwhelmingly Black and Brown, count on to access healthcare during this pandemic is unconscionable and unacceptable. And for Cuomo and the state legislature to roll back bail reform can literally mean a death sentence for the pre-trial detainees that judges can now send to jails that are already plagued with the COVID-19 virus. We need Gov. Cuomo to report to our communities on how the pandemic virus is impacting us by race and poverty, and he must report on how decisions are made to determine which communities will receive needed resources. Some of us feel Black and Brown communities may be not be receiving the resources needed equivalent to the devasting impact the coronavirus is having on our communities.
