Here is this week’s list of open and serving Harlem restaurants to try and support.
East Harlem: Mountain Bird
Chef Kenichi continued to prepare his beak-to-feet, poultry-lovers’ food until they ran out of inventory. Now they are back and revisiting a mashup of Japanese and Mexican food called “MB via East Harlem.” The limited menu includes shrimp lechuga of crispy shrimp gyoza with lettuce salsa verde and sour cream ($15) and chicken el ramen ($17). Do not miss it!
West Harlem: The Edge

The Edge sisters have been making foods from their home countries of Jamaica, England and New York (yes, a city, but you get the point). Try the coconut fish burger ($16) or my favorite fish and chips with housemade tartar sauce ($14). You’ll be saying “irie,” “cheers” and “fuggedaboutit” before you know it.
North Harlem: Hogshead Tavern

We’re not going to mince words here. Yes, order some of their pork-forward dishes like the Pig & Dip…and add a growler or two of their craft beers and definitely a couple of pouches of cocktails, locally called “an adult Capri Sun.” Sip responsibly.
