During Trump’s impeachment process he refused to allow anyone from his administration or key witnesses to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.

Well, the charlatan-in-chief is at it again. On Tuesday, he said he blocked Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and a member of the COVID-19 task force, from appearing before a House subcommittee because the “House is a set-up.”

“The House is a bunch of Trump haters,” he told reporters before embarking on a trip to Arizona to tour a medical mask factory. “They put every Trump hater on the committee, the same old stuff.”

Besides the evident political reason for blocking Dr. Fauci’s appearance, he may be worried that the good doctor might go too far in his testimony, citing some of the differences they have about the pandemic, when to reopen the nation’s stores and businesses, and the timetable for a vaccine, among other things.

While he has blocked Dr. Fauci from sitting before a committee of Democrats, Trump has approved the doctor’s appearance before a GOP Senate committee. Where, if the logic follows, they will put every Trump lover they can find on the committee.

The pressure is now on Dr. Fauci, if he agrees to testify and to tell the whole truth about the current situation where more than a million Americans have been infected with the coronavirus with nearly 70,000 having perished.

Dr. Fauci has often been outspoken about medical and scientific data that contradicts Trump’s opinions, so much so that on several occasions there were reports that Fauci was on his way to the administration’s ever-spinning revolving door. There are reports that Trump may suspend the entire task force, and that would be consistent with his reckless disregard for the peril we face.

But should Fauci appear before the GOP controlled subcommittee he will not be asked anything that would jeopardize his position or standing on the task force. There has been a push from some elected officials and commentators for him to be a bit more assertive and challenge some of the absolutely wrong-headed views tweeted by Trump.

We are waiting to see how things play out in Arizona, and whether Trump will wear a mask, which if he does it will muffle some of the insane propositions he spouts, and that would accentuate our call that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
