Thank God, Daddy was a ‘college nigger’

As I prepare to fly to my hometown, Montgomery, Ala., to visit the much-heralded Lynching Memorial, I can’t help but think of my father, Franklyn Watson Taylor Sr., former college professor and administrator, and my half-brother, Franklyn Watson Taylor Jr., who were almost lynched in the 1930s after a car crash that left a white woman dead.
