Makeba is one of the first African musicians who won international stardom and whose music was always anchored in her traditional South African roots. In 1959 she was forced into exile.
The African Diaspora International Film Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with 64 films from 31 countries, including 31 world, U.S. and New York premieres. Screenings will be held at three venues in Manhattan: Teachers College, Columbia University; Cinema Village; and MIST Harlem.
