Everyone is allowed to make a mistake every now and then, even if the mistake ends up costing a team a game. And that includes the team’s best player.

The Kidd makes major moves, sits his starters

Can things get any more bizarre for the Nets? First there’s the Jason Kidd “glass-flop” trick, then the benching of several starters. And now Paul Pierce has a fractured hand and will be out two to four weeks. The funny thing is the Nets found a way to win two of four games during that bizarre chain of events last week. They are still in a hole, but the team still has some fight. Kidd’s crew fought all the way back from a 27-point deficit to make the Lakers game close.

Jets have enough blame to go around for everyone

Geno Smith’s benching seemed to be a forgone conclusion after a late second-quarter interception during the Jet’s 23-3 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. With only one touchdown and 12 interceptions in his last seven games, Smith’s play can’t be defended. Rex Ryan made the right decision to go with Matt Simms in the second half. Simms didn’t fare much better, throwing for 79 yards and one interception. He also fumbled a handoff to Bilal Powell.

Garnett admits he and teammates have to be accountable

For Jason Kidd’s sake, the answer to that question had better be “when the team is back to 100 percent.”

Jets blow an opportunity to capture the city

One of these days, all 53 men on the Jets’ active roster will get it. One day this season, they will all understand that the NFL is a week-to-week league. Momentum? That is fools gold. The Jets were riding high after a last-second win over the Atlanta Falcons in front of a primetime audience on “Monday Night Football.” They were quickly brought back to earth in their 19-6 loss to the Steelers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday

New-look Nets feel they’re the best in town

Nets new additions Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry have been the talk of the town the last few months. In addition to bringing a championship pedigree to Brooklyn, that high profile quartet is also expected to provide leadership and a mental toughness many believed the Nets lacked last season.

Geno Smith remains under center for the Jets

The rumblings you hear are from Jets fans and some members of the media clamoring for the team to bench rookie quarterback Geno Smith in favor of Matt Simms.

Geno and his receivers are finally catching on

Lost amid the team-record 20 penalties the Jets committed and Geno Smith’s 331-yard, three-touchdown performance in the team’s 27-20 win over the Bills on Sunday was the play of the receivers.

Forget Mark Sanchez-Geno Smith talk, tune in on Sunday

Talk about a complete turn of events. Last week, we were convinced Mark Sanchez would be the starting quarterback for the Jets on opening day.

Jets quarterback position a questionable mess

So Geno Smith won’t be the starting quarterback for the Jets on opening day. There are far worse things going on in the world.

Geno Smith’s turn to run with the first team

To say Geno Smith is chomping at the bit to get back on the field is probably the understatement of the millennium. Smith isn’t the type to want to miss a practice, much a less a game.

Sanchez, Smith: A quarterback feud brewing?

Is Geno Smith refusing to join Mark Sanchez at his camp in California really a sign of disrespect or a rookie wanting to win the starting quarterback job? The fact is, many people thought Sanchez wouldn’t even be on the team at this point, but David Garrard’s abrupt departure from the team forced the Jets to change their plans.

With a Hall of Fame career, will Tim Duncan call it quits?

Are the Spurs done? People have said that over the last two years only to be proven wrong. If the Spurs want to stay in championship contention though, there will be some hard decisions that have to be made.

NBA Players Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili forgot they had teammates

The word resilience is at times the most overused, if not misused, word in sports. What happened on Tuesday night in South Beach between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs (Game 6) of the NBA Final should serve as a reminder of what the word really means.
