Headquartered since 1936 on Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem, around the corner from the historic Apollo Theatre, The Amsterdam News Educational Foundation’s building is arguably one of the most important and treasured buildings in Harlem.

We seek to leverage its historic potency to serve as a place-based center for the New York City Black community, the nation’s largest.

Our plan calls for first floors to be a national museum celebrating the Black press’ crucial role in the ongoing work of U.S. civil rights plus spaces for community happenings/public cafe, with the building’s top floors dedicated to the newspaper, its foundation and now largely remote staff  this revitalized building will be a catalyst for Harlem’s ongoing renaissance; powerfully educate the under-heralded role of the Black press in racial justice; serve as a nexus for today’s Black thought and expression; and help ensure the next century of Amsterdam News’ racial justice journalism.
