The City University of New York hosted nearly 200 guests at the Shiva Art Gallery at John Jay College of Criminal Justice for a reception honoring Chirlane McCray, the first lady of the city of New York, as part of its support for the New York Coalition of One Hundred Black Women’s inaugural Women’s Initiatives Networking (WIN) project.
The reception featured a keynote address by the first lady in which she discussed the need for universal pre-K and her experiences in school. WIN was organized to bring together diverse individuals and women’s groups to discuss common issues and form alliances to present solutions to the issues important to women around the world.
CUNY Senior Vice Chancellor and Board Secretary Jay Hershenson joined Jeremy Travis, president of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Avalyn Simon, president of the New York Coalition of One Hundred Black Women, to welcome the first lady to the event.
