Young hip-hop star J. Cole released an album titled “2014 Forest Hills Drive” in December without the usual music promotion from releasing singles. His plans were much greater, innovative and mysterious. “2014 Forest Hill Drive” was Cole’s childhood home. He hosted a listening party and then began to reveal why his album and the listening party surrounded the single-family house.
The North Carolina-based rapper chose “The Combat Jack Show” to tell the world about his new album and the residence.
“What we’re gonna do, we’re still working it out right now—obviously it’s a detailed, fragile situation I don’t wanna play with,” he said. “My goal is to have that be a haven for families, so every two years, a new family will come in, they live rent-free. The idea is that it’s a single mother with multiple kids, and she’s coming from a place where all her kids [are] sharing a room. She might have two, three kids, they’re sharing a room. She gets to come here rent-free. I want her kids to feel how I felt when we got to the house.”announced Cole.
Generosity and sensitivity are the best words to describe the hit-making artist. His idea helped launch the album to the top of the charts, giving J. Cole his third No. 1 album of his career. Being a good man does pay off!
