It has been announced that the iconic neo-soul musician and former Soulquarian Erykah Badu will host the Soul Train Awards 2015. The awards ceremony that celebrates the achievements of Black contemporary musicians will be recorded Nov. 6 and will air on BET and Centric Nov. 29.
This program is the 29th annual awards show named after the unforgettable music television show that aired from 1971 to 2006, highlighting Black music from every facet of the music industry.
The Soul Train Awards 2015 will be honoring producer and songwriter Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds with the Legend Award, and R&B soul singer Jill Scott with the Lady of Soul Award. Scott will be the first artist to ever receive this award.
Award nominees include Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, the Internet, Kirk Franklin and more. Live performances have yet to be announced, which should make it more enticing to tune in and see how Badu will fare as a host and who will be performing their hit songs. Many people are hoping Badu will perform her remix of the smash hit Drake single “Hotline Bling,” which she wrote with her and Andre 3000’s son, Andre Benjamin.
