Since 1909, the New York Amsterdam News has been committed to fighting for our community through the creation of quality journalism. Now we are continuing our important work with the creation of The Blacklight, the first investigative unit of its kind at a legacy Black newspaper.
In the words of publishers of the first Black Newspaper, Freedom’s Journal, “We wish to plead our own cause. Too long have others spoken for us.” Through The Blacklight, we will shine a light on the problems plaguing our communities and highlight solutions whenever we find them.
The pandemic has shown supporters like you understand the importance of local news as a source of reliable information. We’re asking you to make a tax-deductible gift to grow our investigative coverage which in its first year will focus on the impact of COVID-19 and related misinformation on Black and brown communities. Your donation to The Blacklight, via Local Media Foundation, will directly support this journalism.
The Amsterdam News will allocate your donation to support this new investigative initiative, which goes deeper than our normal reporting, and which will to inform, explain, and educate regarding the pandemic and its impact on our healthcare systems, schools and communities.
