Kids aged 10 to 17 got their chance to show off their science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) skills as members of branch library robotics teams when the Brooklyn Robotics League held its annual competition for local library robotics teams on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Grand Army Plaza Central Library.

The students had participated in several workshops to prepare them for the competition, using the LEGO SPIKE Prime set as part of the FIRST LEGO League. The league is designed to engage them in STEAM skills like research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering.

Each team had 2.5 minutes to complete missions with their autonomously designed robots on a themed playing field. The Washington Irving Library “Irving Hawks” took first place and will move on to compete at the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifier Tournament (FLLCQT).
