Are you ready for BlueGPS? The small, lightweight device, which measures approximately 1-by-1-and-a-half inches and weighs less than 1.5 oz, is designed to be an interface between social networking, fashion and personal safety.
BlueGPS works in conjunction with a cell phone app-device wearers can publish messages about their location with two buttons that are programmed to send the user’s precise location. The unique device provides non-invasive, real-time locating ability at the push of a button and can be programmed with five phone numbers.
BlueGPS is using the introduction of this new fashion device to raise funds for the victims of the Rwandan genocide. They have asked high-fashion designers to make a garment and/or accessory that blends technology and fashion in their signature style. The designs will be modeled at the New York Times Center on June 22 from 5-7 p.m. and will be auctioned off on CHARITYBUZZ.com to benefit What BETTER Looks Like.
What BETTER Looks Like is a charity founded by seven women who traveled through Rwanda and the Congo in November 2010. The organization’s mission is to help victims of the genocide in Rwanda; support women, men and children living with AIDS; sponsor orphaned young adults in Kigali, Rwanda; provide uniforms and food to children in primary and secondary schools; provide the elderly and disabled of the Nyarugunda village in Rwanda with basic supplies, skills and a small start-up business fund.
