Romeo Edmead, 31, has been blind since age 2 with glaucoma. He was born in St. Thomas and attended a pre-school for the blind, then PS 307 in Brooklyn, IS 88 and 142 for eighth grade.
After graduating from Edward R. Murrow High School, Edmead attended Brooklyn College for TV and radio, interned at CBS Sports and wrote news stories for radio and TV production. He practices judo with the sighted and non-sighted and participates in Achilles, an organization for running and biking.
Edmead completed a five-borough bike tour and tandem bike tour, each 42 miles. He currently works for Matilda Ziegler magazine, a popular blind community publication. He loves the Giants and would one day love to go to the Super Bowl.
On Friday, Oct. 21, Edmead and a teammate will participate in a 24-hour relay ride, touching New York City’s five boroughs to kick off Lighthouse International’s Double Up 4 Vision Tandem Bike Ride.
Lighthouse International, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving vision and helping people of all ages overcome the challenges of vision loss, is organizing this unique fundraiser, where sighted bike riders will team up with visually impaired riders for New York’s Tandem Bike Ride/Walk.
This 24-hour relay ride features six inspirational New Yorkers who, despite their challenges, have never stopped believing in themselves and giving back.
