Prior to the season opener,we questioned whether the Jets offense would be ready to start the season. With questions at running back,wide receiver,offensive line and a potential quarterback controversy brewing, who knew what the team was going to look like against the Bills.Those questions were answered in last Sunday’s 48-28 beating of the Bills.The biggest surprise may have come from the wide receivers.After parting with the likes of Braylon Edwards, Plaxico Burress,Brad Smith and Jerricho Cotchery over the last few years,who was going to catch passes for the Jets this season? The answer was everyone.Rookie Stephen Hill had the best day of all the Jets pass catchers with 89 yards receiving and two touchdowns.”I always visualize before a game,”said Hill.”I play the game in the back of my head.I didn’t think I was going to score, but my number came up.” Mark Sanchez completed passes to seven different receivers.Even Santonio Holmes, who’s never shy in rendering opinions, was impressed with the smooth operation of the offense.”It was fun,”said Holmes.”Sanchez felt like putting the ball in everybody’s hands and we all did what we are supposed to do as receivers and that’s make big plays.” Holmes didn’t score,but he had 68 yards receiving and lauded the play of Hill.”That’s the way you go out and play as a rookie,” Holmes said.”Things happen for you and you have to be there to make the big plays.And he did exactly that.”Second-year pro Jeremy Kerley got in on the act with two touchdowns – one receiving and one on a punt return. “We knew what we had,”said Kerley.”We try to trust each other and bring it to the table. When all 11 of us are on the same page,we’re explosive.”Critics took the Jets to task in the off season for what was perceived as a lack of movement during free agency.Rather than spend money,the Jets used the draft and stayed in house to improve the offense.The strategy appears to be a sound one for now.Let’s see if it works in future games and against the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
