New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg held his annual Black History Month celebration at Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank on Chamber Street in lower Manhattan. The overcrowded venue’s audience, 90 percent of which was African-American, was not upset in the least with the change of location from Gracie Mansion to Emigrant Savings Bank. In fact, due to the large turnout, the bank’s extra space was what was needed for the large crowd.
Awards were given to four outstanding women of color: Quinn Hopkins, Christina Norman, Nattily Rivers and Ramona Roopnarine. Light entertainment, finger food and beverages were provided.
