The Millrose Games, the world’s greatest indoor track and field meet, continues its legendary place in history with its 106th event on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Armory’s New Balance Center in Washington Heights.
The Millrose Games are the place to be to cheer on your favorite runners, high jumpers, pole vaulters and for sure Bernard Lagat, the eight-time Wanamaker champ who holds seven American records.
Lagat will be lacing up his running shoes on Saturday, as he will be seeking to regain his two-mile record.
For the Millrose Games, athletes will be coming from around the country and world, as well as from the top colleges and universities in the country, including the likes of the women’s and men’s teams from Cheyney University, Lincoln University (Pa.), Virginia State University and Virginia Union University, all of whom will run for the gold in the Historically Black College 400-meter 4×4 relay.
Matthew Centrowitz will be touring the nation’s best indoor track as he seeks his second straight new York Road Runners Wanamaker Mile.
Jean Suhr is the betting favorite in the women’s Pole Vault, as is Alysia Montano in the women’s 800-meter.
Jason Richardson, the speed king, is set to break the tape in the 110-meter hurdles. Nick Symmonds will be seeking gold in the men’s 800 meters.
New York’s Natasha Hastings from A. Philip Randolph High School, a gold medal winner at the Olympic Game, will be returning to her roots in the 400 meters.
A large contingent of high school and collegiate stars from around the country will also get the gun on Saturday at the Armory.
Presiding over the Millrose Games is Dr. Norbert Sander, executive director of the Armory Foundation. The Armory is located at Wadsworth Avenue and 168th Street, spitting distance from the A Train, as well as buses running north and south on Broadway.
