Professional sports is a young man’s game, right? Try telling that to the San Antonio Spurs, who took a 3-2 lead over the Golden State Warriors with a 109-91 win in Tuesday’s Game 5.
It was the same old story as Tony Parker (25 points), Tim Duncan (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Manu Ginobili (10 points, five rebounds, five assists) led the way. The Spurs also got 17 points from Kawhi Leonard and 16 from Danny Green. This is a team led by three classy veterans. Expect the Spurs to close out the Warriors tonight (Thursday) in Game 6.
In the other Western Conference series, the Memphis Grizzlies have been sizzling. Oklahoma City Thunder just can’t muster enough offense in clutch situations without Russell Westbrook. But Memphis, which took a 3-1 lead with a 103-97 overtime win on Monday night and played at Oklahoma City in Game 5 Wednesday night, deserves credit, too. The Grizzlies’ inside duo of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph had 23 points each in Game 4 on Monday. Even a healthy Westbrook might not be enough to help the Thunder avoid elimination.
The Heat have had no issues with Chicago. Outside of a surprising Game 1 loss, Miami has controlled things. But truth be told, the Bulls have been without Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng and Derrick Rose. Expecting the Bulls to pull off a miracle win without three starters is too much to ask. Miami hosted Chicago on Wednesday night in Game 5.
