At the Wilson Major Morris Community Center in Sugar Hill, Harlem, Sylvia Alston of the Belvedere Apartment and “Miami” of the Convent Garden Jazz Marching Band held their annual Labor Day Jazz Festival, with live entertainment from 100-year-old Fred Staton’s (tenor sax) band, with Zeke Mullins on keyboard, Pete Morgan on drums, Steven Sink on bass, and vocalist Annette St. John.

Also, the “Prince of Harlem”, Lonnie Youngblood, played tenor sax, danced and sang songs dear to the hearts of the guests. Vocalists Antoinette Montague, Rick Anthony, Natalie Carter, Lady Cantrese, Gia Williams and Melba Joyce performed songs that brought back so many treasured memories.

Guests included Councilman Robert Jackson, Judge Frank Perry, David Weaver, Leslie Wyche, Shirley Scott, Jackie Rowe-Adams, the Scott sisters, Luther Gale, Elyse Goldstein, Ruth Clark and Gill McGriff.
