The tenuous nature of the NFC East division remains somewhat indecipherable after Week 7. The Giants’ 27-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey elevated them to a one-game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles, who sustained a 27-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers on the road Monday night.
The Giants are 4-3 moving toward Sunday’s pairing in New Orleans with the suddenly revived 3-4 Saints. The 3-4 Eagles are in their bye week and will play their next game Nov. 8 against the Cowboys in Dallas. Washington is also 3-4 after engineering the largest comeback in franchise history last Sunday.
Trailing 24-0, they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-30 and are firmly in the division title hunt. Like the Eagles, Washington is in their bye week and will face the New England Patriots, currently 6-0 and arguably the best team in football, Nov. 8. The reeling Cowboys are last in the NFC East at 2-4, having lost four straight.
“We just want to take one week at a time and see where we are at the end of 16 [games],” said Giants linebacker Devon Kennard Sunday. “We’ve still got a long ways to go and we’ve got a great opponent. I’m just taking it one week at a time.”
The Giants have found ways to do just enough to stay slightly ahead of the pack. They capitalized on the Cowboys’ lack of execution and multiple miscues to exit with a significant win. They now hold a 2-2 record in the division. The Eagles are 1-2, while Washington and the Cowboys are 1-1 and 2-1 respectively.
