New York Fashion Week 2016 (190499)

For 13 young designers from The Art Institutes school system, Fashion Week was an opportunity to showcase talent, determination and creativity in their fall/winter 2016 collections. Their designs were astonishing. Several designers exhibited some career-defining moments on the runway.

Selected from both current students and recent graduates, these designers seem to understand that fashion is more than buzz-worthy garments. Designing is a process that involves inspiration, sketching, fabric selection, garment construction, sewing and endless revisions before a creation can be shown. From the looks on the runway, these designers have certainly pushed their creative limits. Some designers were born as far away as Iran, Vietnam and Haiti. Other students come from AI’s locations in Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland and Vancouver. However, they each share a common bond—a love for fashion and the determination to pull together a collection within a demanding time frame. These artists worked under supportive faculty mentors who pushed them to bring dynamic fashion concepts to life. That’s exactly what these amazing talents did, and more.

“We are excited to once again showcase our students’ and graduates’ work at our seventh New York Fashion Week,” said Tim Moscato, chief operating officer of The Art Institutes. “This is a true career building experience for them, in which their passion, skills and creativity can shine through in front of an international audience.”

At Art Hearts Fashion, the best three designers of Serbia Fashion Week were introduced to the New York Fashion Week. Designers Marina Micanovic, Zvonko Markovic Couture and Bata Spasojevic showcased wonderful collections with a European flair. Micanovic opened the day with a collection themed, “Rhythm of Asymetric.” The looks included recognizable cuts, unusual forms and an abundance of unique handicraft details that offered her personal identity of design. Her artistic and innovative approach to fashion combines elements of baroque and punk with clean lines.

From Belgrade, the designs of Zvonko Markovic Couture were a stunning collection with sensual, feminine styles. Spasojevic closed the segment with “Hard Angel,” a collection for men and women. Inspired by a mix of styles, his looks featured punk rock, rock ‘n roll and futuristic fashions. The form and construction of these clothes showed asymmetric and sculpted design details. The accessories in this grouping were beautiful.
