This past weekend was the sixth annual West Chelsea Artists Open Studios tour presented by the West Chelsea Artists Group. More than 40 artists in the Chelsea community opened their studios to the public as part of a free self-guided tour that extends from 55 Bethune St. to the West Chelsea Arts building on West 26th Street.
The event provided a chance for both new artists and those more experienced to network and gain insight from each other, and to showcase their work directly to the general public and to collectors, allowing the latter the chance to purchase artwork directly from the artists themselves rather than dealing with art buyers or agents.
The tour allowed visitors to visit artists’ workspaces, enjoy works of art in various stages and observe artists at work. Because of the intimate setting, many younger
inexperienced artists were able to engage with and ask questions of more established artists, who were happy to oblige with answers
Participating artists included LaThoriel Badenhausen, Vicky Barranguet, Ayn S. Choi, Bob Clyatt, Cynthia Cincotti, Elisa Decker, Rodney Durso, Teresa Dunn, Eda Erdik, Camille Eskell, Zane Fix, Andra Gabrielle, Darcy Gerbarg, Peter Glebo, Wilson Hand Kidde, Marion Lane, Franco Lacosta, Adrienne Leban, Iris Levinson, Tinia Marmolejo, Roberta Marroquin, Xanda McCagg, Patrick Milbourn, Catherine Mosley, Scotto Mycklebust, Pamela Acheson Myers, Melinda Plant, Fernando Rangel, Frank Rivera, Veronique San Leandro, Gareb Shanus, Gabriel J.
