Thousands of people turned out for the Gay Pride Parade in the city. A sea of rainbow flags were waved from Midtown to the Village in Manhattan.
Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network marched in the parade. Politicians were on hand including Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
This year’s celebration comes just weeks after a gunman opened fire at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. killing 49 people and President Barack Obama designating The Stonewall Inn gay bar as the first LGBT national landmark.
