Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins celebrated his 89th birthday at a party at Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square.

In honor of his birthday, the diner donated 89 apple and blueberry pies to The Association to Benefit Children, Dinkins’ favorite charity. The event was held on Tuesday, Dinkins actual birthday is Sunday.

The city’s first and only Black mayor was presented with a birthday cake shaped like a tennis court, his favorite sport. The cake also included an edible replica of the municipal building in Lower Manhattan recently named after him and an edible photo of Dinkins and Nelson Mandela.
