Lincoln University Interim President Richard Green named Edgar L. Berry the new interim vice president for Student Affairs, effective Aug. 29. Berry, who was in private practice as a marriage and family psychotherapist and life coach, most recently served as vice president for Student Affairs at Texas College in Tyler, Texas.
Berry replaces Juliana Mosley after her departure earlier this month.
“Dr. Berry has an extensive background in higher education administration,” Green said. “He has an impressive record of accomplishments in student affairs, student initiatives and shared governance. His leadership in student affairs will be a welcome addition to the university.”
With more than 38 years in higher education experience, Berry has also served as vice president of Student Services and Enrollment at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas; vice president for Student Affairs at Albany State University in Albany, Ga.; associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs at University of North Carolina Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C.; associate vice president of Educational and Student Services and dean of students, as well as adjunct professor, at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa; and assistant dean of students and director of Retention Programs, as well as a judicial affairs officer, at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.
“I had the opportunity to interact in a direct and collaborative way with every segment of the university community,” Berry wrote in his letter to the search committee regarding his tenure at Texas College. “I have addressed issues in student and academic affairs, which include areas such as student life policies and procedures, retention programs, diversity initiatives, financial aid triage, registration and academic advisement, student orientation, public safety, residential life, athletics, student government, judicial affairs, enrollment management and student engagement and success . . . I have spent my entire professional career preparing for this type of position and opportunity to serve.”
In addition, he served as director of Minority Affairs at Muhlenberg College in Allentown; assistant dean of admissions at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pa.; recruiter and coordinator at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.; lead counselor for the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act Counseling Program at Morris Brown College; program director for Upward Bound at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Ga.; and a counselor, adjunct professor and assistant basketball coach at Morris Brown College.
Berry holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social welfare from St. Augustine’s University, a master’s degree in secondary school guidance counseling from Clark Atlanta University and an educational doctorate in counselor education from Texas Southern University.
