Do you want your children to get out of the house and enjoy a day at the museum with free entertainment? Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, come to Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling to celebrate its first birthday with free admission, a full day of programming from noon to 5 p.m., two new exhibitions and new hours. One of the new art exhibitions is “Chester Higgins Jr.: Passing Through.” This exhibit contains images taken 1969 to 2002 in Africa, Harlem and other parts of the U.S. The other exhibit is “Z is for ZigZag: Directions Around Northern Manhattan.” This exhibit contains bold patterns, shapes, colors and unrestricted lines to impress visitors and to encourage children to imagine a familiar setting in different ways. From noon to 12:30 p.m., join Maija Garcia/Organic Magnetics as she starts the programs with a dance performance. After the dance performance, from 1:30 to 2 p.m., the artist Flor Bromley will read stories and introduce her new children’s music CD, “Chiqui Music Boom.” Next is “Stories With Scoot” from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., and then from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., a group of young musicians inspired by the world-renowned Venezuelan music program, “El Sistema NY/NJ,” will performing. After “El Sistema NY/NJ,” Joseph Webb will read his new book through the activities of dancing, spoken words and music from 3.45 to 4.15 p.m. And to top it all off is a birthday party celebrating the first birthday of the museum from 4 p.m. to 5p.m.
The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling is designed to fill the needs and curiosity of young minds, improve language skills and develop thinking skills in children aged of 3 to 8.
The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling is located at 898 St. Nicholas Ave. at 155th street in New York City. Thursday and Friday the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free for children under 8, $4 for ages 9 to 17, $7 for adults and $4 for seniors are 65 and older. Every third Sunday admission is free for everyone.
