Race, diversity, community engagement and law enforcement are the focus of an upcoming forum at Bergen Community College.
“Race and Diversity in Suburbia: Police and Community Working Together,” organized by the college, will take place Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the college’s main campus at 400 Paramus Rd.
Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III will provide opening remarks, along with Bergen County Police Chiefs Association President Frank Regino and retired Ridgewood chief of police and current college Vice President of Facilities, Planning Operations and Public Safety William Corcoran.
Sociology professor Maureen Ellis Davis will also lead a conversation on the history of race and diversity in a suburban setting before COPS Office of Policing Practices and Accountability Initiative Chief Noble Wray discusses bias, de-escalation and the White House Task Force.
A panel discussion on communities working together, led by retired Fairview chief of police and current Bergen County Communications Director Frank DelVecchio, will take place in the afternoon and feature Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal and the Rev. Gregory Jackson, pastor of Mount Olive Church.
