Nikkie Pryce (223283)

Nikkie Pryce is on a mission to help women with self-love and self-awareness through the use affirmation. She is the founder of the organization I AM Community, which is a community of “Dreamers” putting forth words and taking the steps to make those words reality.

A native of Miramar, Fla. now living in Brooklyn, Pryce is a graduate of the historically Black Florida A&M University. With a background in broadcast journalism, she was a local news reporter before moving to Atlanta to work in the luxury retail industry.

She started a campaign on social media when she made a list of her good qualities, along with things she wanted to be in the future, and posted it on social media.

“I wrote affirmations like ‘I AM kind’ and ‘I AM worthy’ and I filled up the entire page,” she said. “I took a photo of it a posted it on Instagram and asked other people to post their own affirmation.”

Her challenge went viral, getting shared multiple times with people posting similar list and giving birth to the “I AM Community.”

However, the passing of her mother from cancer urged her to rethink her entire life and go for something in which she makes helping others with their own aspirations into a full-time passion.

“I decided that I wanted to do something to make a difference,” she said. “If there was an issue that I was dealing with I needed to encourage myself. I realized there were other people who needed that same encouragement. It’s more than a challenge. We all really deal with a lot of the same issues. I thought maybe if I create a community, we can encourage each other.”

Built on social media using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, I AM Community has grown to thousands of followers using the hashtag #IAMCommunity. Pryce has become a motivational speaker, presenting her concept to corporate conferences, nonprofit organizations, women’s retreats, young girl groups, schools and churches.

Pryce also has courses and products, and she hosts her own events and has one-on-one consultations. Although I AM Community is for anyone, Pryce targets millennials, particularly women.

“I AM Community always goes back to the people using community as a tool to provide them with actionable steps and do what they are saying,” she said. “I speak to myself and encourage myself until I act out what I am saying. I want to use the organization to teach people to take action to whatever you are saying.”

Her formula for taking the first steps to making words into action: Your thoughts + your words + your actions = your reality.

“When you think positive you start to speak these things,” she said. “Whatever is in a person’s heart comes out of their mouth. Then you act and you create your world.”

Pryce can be found online at nikkiepryce.com and iamcommunity.org, where she offers a free download of her e-book “Self Love Makeover.” She’s also on Instagram and Twitter at @iamcommunity and on Facebook at “The I AM Community.”

Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., Pryce is hosting “The Creative Idea Event” in Brooklyn at Bailey’s Cafe, located at 324 Malcolm X Blvd., in Bed-Stuy. The event is free and open to women in need of strategy and coaching to launch a business. Go to Eventbrite to RSVP.
