Reports indicate that singer Brenda Jones of the R&B sister girl group trio The Jones Girls has died. She was 62.
In a recent interview with EBONY, her sister and bandmate, Shirley, said Jones’ death is a major blow. Her other sister and bandmate, Valorie, died in 2001.
“My sister was my life, she was probably one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet,” she said. “When we lost Val in 2001 that was a real big blow to the family….The bond that we had growing up was unique; it was so special. The heartbreak is phenomenal. I can’t even imagine going on without her but life will go on. We’re strong and we’re going to persevere in her name. She was truly a wonderful person.”
The Jones Girls started in Detroit, Michigan first recording for GM Records in 1968, then recording for Philadelphia International Records with Gamble & Huff.
Their biggest hits included “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else,” “I Just Love The Man” and “Nights Over Egypt.”
