Friday, April 28, the Kechie’s Project Inc. will host a panel discussion on “Global Education and Girls’ Security: Chibok Girls of Nigeria and Beyond.” This year will mark the third year since approximately 300 Chibok girls were kidnapped in northern Nigeria by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram. According to the BBC, Boko Haram is opposed to anything that is associated with Western culture. One of the human rights they are against is allowing women to be educated. Although some girls were able to reunite with their families, most of them are still held in captivity. Kechie’s Project is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower girls to become future leaders in their communities.  They also provide academic, entrepreneurship opportunities and social support to girls in underserved communities in Africa. Dr. Arnette Crocker, who is the founding principal of the Women’s Academy of Excellence, will be attending the event, along with Kechie’s Project representative and former America’s Top Model contestant Nnenna Agba-Dufils, Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase, superintendent of Greenburgh Central School District, and Eren T. Gibson, who is a certified therapeutic riding instructor and actress.

This event is free and open to the public. It will take place at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center on the City College Campus, 85 St. Nicholas Terrace, New York, N.Y., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
